Coaches at every level of sport must be good at coaching life too. Emphasizing the following, “How you do is not who you are,” is crucial for kids, especially those most into sport. Too many athletes and their parents define individuals by how well they perform on the field. When asked how their son or daughter is, they immediately respond with their recent baseball statistics, good or bad ones. Adults must explain that sports’ play is only one small part of who a person is. Every coach must use the word, “Forgetaboutit,” after tough games and practices.
