Jack Perconte Coaching Training
After playing major league baseball, Jack Perconte has taught baseball and softball for twenty-three years and offerred valuable coaching training, too. He has helped
numerous youth players reach their potential, as well as having helped parents and coaches navigate their way through the challenging world of youth sports. Jack is one of the leading authorities in the areas of youth baseball training and coaching training advice.
Why Coaching Training
“First, nothing is more important than proper coaching training, as coaches are the conduit to our youth. I feel like one of the most fortunate former, pro athletes because I found my passion in life. Helping youth reach their potential, while having fun at the same time, has been as personally rewarding as playing major league baseball. I feel qualified to teach the game because, at one time or another, I made every mistake there is in baseball. I teach from experience as well as from all the study I have put into it over the years. Baseball is a game of failure, so, from experience at the highest level, I help kids deal with failure as they learn the fundamentals, which often puts them on their way to reaching their potential. In addition, I have witnessed and dealt with the player/coach, player/parent, and parent/coach relationships to the extent that I feel I have an expertise to offer in these areas.”
Jack Perconte played 12 years of professional baseball, including seven in the majors for the
Dodgers, Indians, Mariners and White Sox, with a career .270 average in the majors and a .311 mark in the minor leagues. A native of Joliet, Ill., Jack was a 16th round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1976 out of Murray State University and made his big league debut with the Dodgers in 1980. Jack operated a baseball and softball training academy in Naperville, Illinois for 19 years.
Jack is perhaps the only major league player ever to be married to an ordained Methodist minister, Linda (still his wife, and mother of his three adult children), and he graduated summa cum laude from Murray State University, with a B.Sc. in sociology. Jack has helped his son, Michal, to play professional baseball.
Coaching Training Resources
Jack has turned to writing to further help athletes and parents have enjoyable baseball and sports’ experiences. Jack’s website, www.baseballcoachingtips.net give insightful baseball and positive parenting in sports advice.
The hitting drills, mental training and coaching tips found in The Making of a Hitter: A Proven & Practical Step-by-Step Baseball Guide were culled from the 60,000 hitting lessons Jack estimates he gave while operating his academy.
Jack’s second book, Raising an Athlete: How to Instill Confidence, Build Skills and Inspire a Love of Sport, is an insightful look at his playing, coaching and parenting experiences, with valuable advice for parents and sport coaches.
“Many parents are ill-prepared for the challenges of youth sports. Playing for inept coaches, unmotivated sons and daughters, kids not having fun, kids who lack confidence, parents pushing kids, athletic burnout, etc… are just some of the issues I tackle in my writings. I believe my unique playing and coaching experiences offer a practical expertise that people will relate to, and learn from, when dealing with youth in sports and life. If the book helps even one kid have a better life experience in sports, it will have been worth the effort. My books and websites are an effort to give parents and coach the best coaching training and sports perspective, so kids have the positive experiences they deserve to have.” Jack Perconte
